A Chance Encounter: Oliver’s Road to Rescue

Oliver’s journey to Free Radical Ranch was one filled with twists and turns, but it led him to a forever home filled with warmth and care. One fateful day, he was found abandoned in a crate by the side of the road. Thankfully, some kind-hearted locals came to his rescue and brought him to safety. They reached out for a forever home, and despite not needing a pet pig, I couldn’t resist the sight of this nervous, skinny little guy.

Love at First Sight: Welcoming Oliver to Free Radical Ranch

Arriving at the ranch, his rescuers introduced us to “Olive”. We made sure he had a cozy spot, surrounded by deep-bedded hay, to keep him warm during the winter. Little did we know that “Olive” was a boy until spring came and he finally felt comfortable enough to show his true self. As he relaxed, he’d ask for belly rubs, revealing his identity as Oliver, the friendly and affectionate potbelly pig.

From Nervous to Friendly: Oliver’s Transformation

With each passing day, Oliver’s personality blossomed. Although he still had occasional moments of nervousness, he quickly learned to love people and enjoy their attention. Now, when visitors approach, especially children, he eagerly runs up to the fence, hoping for a pet or a belly rub. It’s heartwarming to see how far he’s come from those uncertain early days.

Finding His Place: Oliver’s Life on the Ranch

As Oliver gained confidence, he integrated seamlessly into our multispecies pasture. He shares the space with other animals like alpacas, angora goats, donkeys, and sheep, creating a diverse and harmonious community. When dinner time arrives, Oliver’s enthusiasm knows no bounds. His squeals of excitement are endearing, and we always make sure he’s well taken care of, knowing that he experienced hunger and abandonment in the past.

Oliver’s resilience shines through as he navigates life on the ranch. He’s learned to hold his own weight without requiring excess food, which speaks to his adaptability and self-reliance. Whether it’s snuggling into a cozy bed of hay for a nap or following a scoop of food anywhere, Oliver embraces life with gusto.

His pink complexion, adorned with light greyish-black spots, makes him one of a kind. With his growing tusks and stubby pig nose, he has a distinct charm that captivates all who meet him. There’s something truly special about this chubby boy with a heart full of love.
